Community ServiceThe students, staff, and parents of The Summit School are proud of their community service history. Driven by the desire to make our world a better place for all, Summit students annually collect for needy children and families in the form of food and clothing drives. The Student Government Association has developed traditions of fundraising to donate to charities in Anne Arundel County that inspire them. Operation Smile, a medical organization that repairs cleft palates of children, received a donation of one thousand dollars. A $500 gift was also given to the Lost Boys of Sudan following a soccer game at our school with two of the Lost Boys, themselves. The students raised these funds through special events (bake sales, penny wars, car washes). Every year the students select other worthy causes and raise money in creative ways. Beyond money donations, the students have given of themselves to others by entertaining seniors at retirement centers, packing lunches for the citizens of the Lighthouse Shelter, to name a few. Community service also includes service to our environment. The Summit School has begun concerted efforts to recycle, reuse, and reduce throughout the school. The students have also improved life around the Chesapeake Bay by growing oysters and cleaning creeks. As our community grows, our community service to others will continue to grow and blossom just like our beautiful children.
