The Summit School’s 8th Grade Class Production – A Virtual Production of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book

A Maryland middle school’s theatre production gives a whole new meaning to the phrase: THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

On Wednesday night, June 3, 2020 at 7:00 PM, The Summit School in Edgewater, MD will hold a virtual production of Monica Flory’s adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.” The 8th grade class was in the last week of tech rehearsals when the stay-at-home order was enacted, but rather than cancelling, the production team went back to the drawing board: literally… Collaborating with Alabama-based comic illustrator, Clint Kisor, the cast and team went to work preparing a virtual production that would feature, instead of sets and props, custom illustrations to bring the scenes to life. This collaboration even brought the playright herself, Monica Flory, into the action, where she will be opening the production on Tuesday night. Ryan Ferguson, Performing Arts Director at Summit said, “If there’s ever a time that we need to come together and have our students tell this story of compassion, fear, identity, and the discovery of one’s own truth… it’s now.”
