FOOD POLICY

The Summit School is a nutrition-conscious school. Select foods that promote good health and “Brain Power”. If you are informed that a classmate has an allergy to peanuts or other food allergies, always check with your child’s teacher/s about safeguards.

Suggested foods include:

SNACKS: Fruit, vegetables, nuts, raisins, yogurt, cheese, crackers, pretzels, 100% fruit juices, 100% fruit roll-up snacks, popcorn, baked chips, bagels.

LUNCHES: Sandwiches, soups, etc.

NOT PERMITTED: High sugar foods and beverages (soda, candy, cakes, cookies, fruit punch, etc.); High-fat foods with “empty calories” (potato chips, Doritos, etc.).

CELEBRATIONS: We ask families to be nutrition-conscious when providing special treats
for class/student celebrations. Please consider the possibility that some students have food allergies, as well. It is best to check with classroom teachers when planning special events. We ask that you provide birthday treats that are not sugar-rich, such as iced cakes and cupcakes. Nutritious treats include fruit salads, bagels with a variety of spreads, low sugar muffins, whole grain cookies, natural fruit juices.
