Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, every effort is made to open school. In most cases,
The Summit School will follow the decision made by Anne Arundel County Public Schools. However, in some instances The Summit School may choose to make an independent decision. Public schools may need to close, but our program may be able to open or delay opening by 2 hours. If Anne Arundel County is imposing a 2 hour delay, DO NOT ASSUME the same for Summit. Call the school after 6:15 a.m. for the most current message. If travel conditions unsafe, we will not put drivers and students at risk, and we defer to parental discretion regarding travel conditions and safety decisions.
During inclement weather you can stay informed of
The Summit School’s decisions to open or close school in these ways:
1. Check our Summit website www.thesummitschool.org for announcements related to
inclement weather.
2. Tune in to Channel 4 TV or WBAL TV 11 or listen to WNAV 1430 AM Annapolis or WTOP DC/ Metro stations at 1500 AM, 107.7FM, 820AM, 104.3FM,WGMS 103.5FM, and online at www.wtopnews.com.
3. Call The Summit School and listen to the voice message on the answering machine.
Our goal is to post all notices by 6:15 a.m.
If school is opened two hours late on a Wednesday (usually a half day for students), all students are encouraged to attend.
P.G. County buses will not transport on a Wednesday if school is two hours late, but will drive if school is one hour late opening. Buses will not transport if their school system has made the decision to close and Summit has made the decision to open. Parents of students transported by bus should contact the school system’s transportation division for clarification of nonpublic policies for bus transport during inclement weather, and plan accordingly. If Summit does not close early, please try to avoid disrupting your child’s program with early pick-up. Parental discretion is expected. |
