Each Wednesday, from 11:40am-12:20pm, Summit student's participate in our Enrichment Program. Enrichment activity choices are designed by teachers, usually focusing on a strength or interest they have to share with students.
Enrichment provides students with an opportunity to work with teachers who may not teach their core academic subjects, which helps build community across the school among all students and teachers. The Enrichment Program also provides opportunities for community building among all students. The Enrichment Program fosters social interaction among students who are not in the same classes. In some cases, depending upon the nature of the Enrichment class, younger students and older students work together, giving the younger students a chance to get to know the older students they admire, and older students gain a sense of being school "elders" who help and guide the younger students. Additionally, students enjoy opportunities to learn concepts and skills beyond academics in an environment that is nurturing and fun, yet expertly sculpted by the same teachers who guide their learning in oral language, reading, writing, math, social studies, and science.
Students select three ranked choices for each cycle, giving them a voice in what they learn. Since there are three enrichment rounds during the school year and each round offers a variety of choices, students participate in more than one of their favorite choices. Needless to say, our Enrichment Program offers learning "outside the box" for our students, but to our students, Enrichment is just plain fun.
