Edgewater, MD (March 2019) – The Summit School’s 2019 Summer Camps are now open for registration! This year, The Summit School offers a variety of educational camps for students entering grades one through ten. As research shows that elementary students’ school performance falls by about a month during the summer, The Summit School offers academic enrichment during this time to work to mitigate summer slide and prepare students for back-to-school success.
Camp Summit for students entering grades 1-8, will run from July 1-26, 2019 (8:30 am – 3:00 pm with the option of after-care and transportation). This popular camp offers a nurturing environment where students build self-confidence while having fun and making new friends. The camp morning offers one hour each of: reading, math, and oral/written expression, while afternoons are full of recreation.
Executive Function Camp will run August 5-9 (9:00 am-12:00 pm) for students entering grades 8-10, and August 12-16 (9:00 am-12:00 pm) for students entering grades 5-7. This class tackles organization, time management and study skills. Students benefit even more with built-in follow up sessions during the school year to check in on progress and prepare for a successful year.
EmPOWER™ Writing Skills Camp will run August 5-9 (1:00 pm-4:00 pm) for students entering grades 8-10, and August 12-16 (1:00 pm-4:00 pm) for students entering grades 5-7. Use of the EmPOWER™ writing process, based on solid research and developed to help students connect oral language, organization of thought and writing, will launch your child on the road to writing success. Students can use the EmPOWER method for any writing assignment in any grade level and any subject area.
By combining Executive Function and EmPOWER™ Writing Skills Camps for a full day, students learn key organizational skills, study skills, and how to prioritize their tasks in the morning; then learn a writing process that students can apply to a variety of writing assignments in the afternoon!
