October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month

National Dyslexia Awareness Month aims to educate parents and professionals about dyslexia so that children with dyslexia can be identified sooner, receive appropriate instruction, and acquire the support they need to succeed.  The Summit School has several events planned throughout the month.


  • Oct 1 – Look for Summit’s article about Dyslexia Awareness in the South River Colony Living and Davidsonville Living magazines.


  • Oct 1 – 31 – Summit student art displayed at Edgewater Library. Stop in to see the students’ artistic representations of famous people who have dyslexia!



  • Oct 10 – Decoding Dyslexia MD Town Hall Panel Discussion:  Why aren’t all Maryland Students Learning to Read? How to Close the Reading Gap – Click here


  • Oct 17 Zelma Wynn Symposium – Mindfulness and the Emotional Art of Learning: Revitalizing Teaching and Learning


  • Oct 21 – Shop at The Painted Cottage, 164 West Central Ave, 10 am – 6pm (Summit receives 10% of proceeds). Dr. McCarthy will present “Dyslexia Myths & Truths” @ 5pm




  • November 5 – Lunch at Summit for psychologists, pediatricians and learning specialists
